change itunes default view

This question was raised a few years ago but I haven't seen a satisfactory reply.

During a recent re-installation of Windows 7 I lost my itunes library and am now painstakingly reassembling everything manually from my ipad. Every time I fill another playlist with songs I see them in playlist view i.e. superfluous icons and a wide spaced listing so for each playlist I have to change to list view. Is there a way to set the whole lot to list view or is this another case of doing it Apple's way or no way?

Cheers.

Thanks for your reply.

All my music comes free from non-Apple sources so a normal reverse sync will not work. I copied your script in a fresh Visual Basic project and it showed several errors which I don't know how to fix. The problems are probably due to the fact that my VB version (VB5) is ancient. Since I am now more than halfway through re-creating my playlist I will just plod on under Apple's iron rules. My music is on a Windows "My Documents" folder and was not lost. I just have to organise the itunes folders.

Cheers,

The scripts doesn't require Visual Studio. It should run directly in the Windows Scripting Host which should be called automatically if you double click on the saved .vbs file in Explorer. The script runs two main passes, the first will look for tracks in the library that have the same unique track ID as each track in each playlist that is being imported. If IDs cannot be matched a second pass is made where an alternate key is generated for each item in the library based on a combination of tag properties. Assuming the tags haven't been edited since the tracks were added to the device the script should find a match in the library.
